With a manual altaz mount (even with fine adjustment controls), tracking an object can be a significant distraction. With ordinary eyepieces (AFOV ~ 50°) and a magnification of around 50x, the object will remain in the field for, say 3 minutes. Naturally, as magnification is increased, the object leaves the field proportionally faster, so that at 100x or more, the frequent tracking adjustments and the attendant vibrations detract seriously from studying the object.
The 100° AFOV of the APM/Lunt 13mm eyepiece means that at, say 120x, the object remains in the field as long as at 50x with an ordinary eyepiece. The APM/Lunt optic is also commendably sharp.
